Technology in the English/Language Arts Classroom
Technology in the classroom for both EFL and ESL students is very beneficial to all...
providing a 24/7 learning opportunity in the palm of their hands :)
Literacy Development is key to understanding the English language. My personal focus in teaching ELA to all students, with the use of the countless numbers of apps and mobile devices available would allow students to always be engaged in their/ others learning.
Some personal favorites:
Word Bingo- A great game to helps build vocabulary. Applicable to ELL students especially but mainly primary grades.
Sentence Builder- One of the most commonly used apps for elementary aged students learning the English language!
Kidioms – An Introduction to Idioms for Kids that makes learning fun for ELL and EFL students. It offers three interactive activities to help reinforce the concepts and provide practice using and understanding the idioms known as "Word Drop, Match-Up and Missing Word". In addition, the Common Core standards that relate to grades 3-5 are listed under the app making the lesson planning simpler!
Grammar Jammers- This application catchy animated songs and rhymes make English language arts exciting! This could be used in whole group, small group and individual classroom instruction.
Forvo- This app works as a simple pronunciation dictionary which you can carry with you.For more common words in English one can get multiple examples from different toned speakers.
ABC Phonics Animals Writing- With this app, the student will be involved with strategies in working with ABC recognition, writing, and listening skills with animals. The use of animals in their writing helps all student but especially ESL students.
Spelling Cat- Through the use of this app, students will be asked to unscramble words or fill in a missing letter, which makes Kenny the Cat play a sound. Be careful! If you get the question wrong, he scolds you with a terribly annoying tune.
